Broadcaster of the Year

Carolyn & Doyle Becker Chosen as “2014 Broadcasters of the Year”

Carolyn and Doyle Becker, owners of Riverfront Broadcasting, LLC of Yankton, SD were honored as the “2014 Broadcasters of the Year” by the South Dakota Broadcasters Association (SDBA) at their Annual State Leadership Conference held September 5th and 6th, in Sioux Falls, SD. The award is given to broadcasters in recognition of their community service.

Riverfront Broadcasting is based in Yankton, SD and has stations located in Pierre (KCCR-AM, KLXS-FM, KCCR-FM), Mitchell (KORN-AM, KQRN-FM), and Yankton (KYNT-AM, KKYA-FM, KDAM-FM). Their stations in three SD communities have allowed family owned Riverfront Broadcasting to specialize in small communities, to build the economic base in those communities, and promote a positive influence through their work with the local businesses and organizations.

Carolyn and Doyle have both served on numerous local nonprofit Boards and they encourage their staff to do the same. It has been a year of superlatives for KYNT in particular. Through the Becker’s leadership, KYNT-AM’s staff has donated over 1,000 volunteer hours, provided 11,000 minutes of public service announcements, and has helped local charitable organizations raise over $800,000 this past year. KYNT-AM was awarded the National Assn of Broadcasters “Crystal Award of 2013″, and the Becker’s were recognized at the 2014 Service to America Awards. KYNT was also nominated as a “Small Market Station of the Year” at the 2014 NAB Marconi Radio Awards.

The SD Broadcasters Association is a membership organization representing South Dakota’s radio and television stations. It provides education, regulatory assistance and legislative representation to its members and with them provides community service to South Dakotans.
