Roosevelt student selects fine arts programs for $10,000 award

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) – A Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School student who won $10,000 in this year’s Lesson Learned SD program is helping out her school.

Alexa Nelson was named the winner back in July. Now, the South Dakota Broadcasters Association gave her another $10,000 to give to a school program of her choosing.

The Lesson Learned SD program is designed to encourage young people to be safe drivers, which is a message that hits close to home for Nelson.

“It means a lot because it was only a few weeks before I got in a really bad car crash, and then over the school year my buddy was ejected, so it means a lot to see they are trying to stop this,” she said.

The money will go towards the theater, choir and art departments.
