2018 Broadcaster of the Year – Scott Kooistra

2018-09-15 03.10.13Scott Kooistra, Morning Host / Sports Director, KYNT-AM Yankton, SD was honored as the “2018 Broadcaster of the Year” by the South Dakota Broadcasters Association (SDBA) at the 70th Annual State Leadership Conference held September 14-15, at the Lodge at Deadwood.   The award is given to Broadcasters in recognition of their community service.

Scott has been in radio for over 32 years, 22 years in Yankton.  Every year, Scott interviews approximately 700 unique guests and 1,500 separate segments on the KYNT Morning Coffee Show dealing with local newsmakers, topics and community events.  He also handles the play-by-play of nearly 150 games each year involving Yankton High School and Mount Marty College.

Scott has served on over a dozen separate Board of Directors, Advisory Councils, or Committees involving non-profit agencies in the community.  In 2017, with Kooistra leadership, all day long radio-thon events raised over $30,000 each for the United Way of Greater Yankton and the Yankton Habitat for Humanity Chapter.

Kooistra received the Marconi Award (Small Market Personality of the Year), in 1999, and accepted the Crystal Award in 2014 for KYNT Radio.

The SD Broadcasters Association is a membership organization representing South Dakota’s radio and television stations. It provides education, regulatory assistance and legislative representation to its members and with them provides community service to South Dakotans.
