On The Air ALL ARTICLES KELO-TV PREPARES FOR HD DEBUT OCTOBER 11, 2011 By Don Jorgensen Published: October 11, 2011, 5:00 PM SIOUX FALLS, SD - KELO-TV is just days away from debuting its new high definition studio. From a new set to new robotic cameras and new editing systems, it's been a lengthy process to get where we are at and there's been a lot of hard work behind the scenes, but we think you're going to like the results. KELO-TV has invested a lot of money to go HD. So to make sure we've worked out all the bugs with the highly sophisticated equipment, we're now rehearsing as if we are broadcasting the news live from our new studio. "The importance of rehearsals is that we are changing more than just a couple of cameras here and there. We're changing all of our systems in producing the news. We have to rehearse the direction of it, producing of the newscast and also anchors on the set have to rehearse their parts too," KELO TV Director of Marketing and Creative Services Paul Farmer said. The studio is finished. We can't show you all of it just yet, but we can show you some of the other behind the scenes areas you don't get to see on a nightly basis. For instance, our new media center. From inside there, our director and producer work side-by-side calling the shots. Something new we'll be using on our new set is these iPads. The anchors will no longer have paper scripts in front of them. The iPads will give us a much cleaner on-air look. Plus because we'll be broadcasting in high definition, a make-up consultant suggested we use airbrushes to apply our make up. Because we apply our own, that too took some training. Our graphics department has been working hard updating images that will add to KELO's new on-air look. "We're changing the whole look of our station with high definition. You'll see all new graphics on the air; our new set of course. So it's a long process in changing all the different pieces of a newscast and look of the station that most viewers don't pay too much attention to because they see it everyday.
