KOTA-TV seeks a Weekend Anchor/Reporter with a passion for journalism to join our team. We want someone who knows the news before he/she arrives in the office.

The Anchor/Reporter presents news on assigned newscasts. The incumbent researches, develops and produces news reports in the field that are informative, interesting and compelling.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Deliver on-air news in an engaging, conversational, and accurate manner

Use editorial judgement and leadership to help determine content of the newscasts

Work alongside the producer and team to create unique, fast-paced newscasts with impact

Use social media to determine content of newscasts and highlight big social stories

Use creative production techniques such as graphics and other forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews etc) to enhance newscasts and stories

Post daily to all digital platforms and social media including attaching images and streaming video

Interview news subjects and do research for facts and credibility

Generate investigative stories using sources to dig deeper

Produce newscasts as assigned

Perform other tasks as required, including but not limited to filling in for producers and anchors on other newscasts

Deliver unscripted breaking news coverage and special event coverage to the community at large

Follow clothing and appearance guidelines

Collaborate with producers and management in the development of broadcast content such as newscasts, promotions and teases

Report stories as assigned and evaluate leads and tips in order to develop story ideas to pitch during editorial meetings

Cover news in the field to generate, produce and deliver high profile special reports

Edit video for broadcasts

Participate in community events and makes public appearances on behalf of the station as assigned

Required Skills & Experience:

One (1) year experience in a commercial newsroom preferred, but we will accept an exceptional entry-level graduate

BS/BA in journalism or communications

Ability to shoot, write and edit with limited supervision

Experience with posting stories to social media

Excellent communications skills, both oral and written

Ability to meet deadlines, to prioritize assignments, and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Computer literacy, including newsroom computer systems

Schedule flexibility

A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
