Morning Meteorologist


KDLT-TV (NBC Affiliate in Sioux Falls, SD) seeks a full-time Morning Meteorologist responsible for anchoring and producing weather segments for KDLT News Today.

Our ideal candidate is a leader who can prepare and deliver the weather forecast for weekday newscasts and breaking severe weather coverage.  You will be expected to produce content on a variety of platforms, including internet, social networking sites, and mobile phones, in addition to television. You must have excellent time management skills and be able to meet deadlines.

As a Meteorologist, you will be responsible for the content of the weather cast on-air and on our digital platforms. You will issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events. You must be able to utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories. Weather is a critical need for viewers. The public’s safety is a vital concern for us and we take our responsibility very seriously.

Qualifications include: Degree in Meteorology with an emphasis or minor in Broadcast Journalism, knowledge with WSI Max software and their various platforms a plus, analyze weather data to prepare, produce and present detailed, concise forecasts, developing strong content and creative graphics for on-air, web and social media to support weather presentation, conversational on-air presentation and strong on-air communication skills, doing live shots and reporting from community events and in breaking news, proficient in using video cameras and non-linear editing equipment, flexible schedule for severe weather & winter weather scenarios, and fill-in other shifts as necessary, working with producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations, work closely with news management in designing presentation style and editorial content for weather presentations, proficient in social media platforms and effective social media strategies, post content to website and station social media platforms,  previous on-air experience presenting weather and news information is required, ability to work as part of an on-air team and part of a weather team, excellent news judgement and solid understanding of AP-style writing, making public appearances on behalf of the station, and great work ethic. Time management skills are a must.
